Breaking Into The World of Brand Design

Over the last decade or so, the importance of good branding has become much more critical for businesses. To remain competitive in a world which is filled with loads of companies, even the smallest have to work hard to make sure that they have a recognizable face. Without this, it will be almost impossible to secure customers, and people will find it hard to trust you. Of course, though, you’re not interested in having a brand made for you; you want to start making them. To help you out with this, this post will be exploring what will need to be done if you want to break into the world of brand design.

The Learning: As with any new field, you’re going to have to do some learning before you can get to work. If you don’t already have the skills to design or draw, you might need to go back to school for a little bit, as this will take a bit of time to master. With these skills under your belt, though, simple things like a rebrand definition or logo design guide could be all you need to catch up with the industry. It’s worth making sure there aren’t any big gaps in your education before you get started with this.

The Portfolio: It will be very hard to convince people to work with you if you don’t have some good examples of past work to show them. Of course, building a portfolio isn’t always easy when you’re first starting out, as you won’t be able to get customers until you have one. To get around this, you might need to look into doing some work for free. It’s likely that you will know one or two people in need with help with their branding, and social media can help you to find some good candidates if you need some support. A website will go hand in hand with this part of your business, giving you somewhere to post your work, along with enabling customers to find you and get in contact.

The Business: Of course, even when you’re self-employed, there will still be some administration work which comes with running your business. You will need to manage your finances, legal documents, and other important paperwork, along with all of the projects which you are working on. There are loads of tools out there which can help you with this. Using Freshbooks for accounting, G Suite for your calendar and content creation, and Asana to manage projects is like creating an entire office on your computer. This will still take some work to master, but will make the process much easier.

Hopefully, this post will inspire you to start working harder on the time you put into your attempt at breaking into the world of brand design. Unlike other types of graphic design, this field comes with a lot of conceptualization. You will have to work hard to capture a company’s image, and this might mean spending a long time working with them.
