The creation and rapid growth of the Internet has brought in a new age of funding options for people with great ideas. Extreme geeks just like you the world over have turned wild ideas into reality with the power of crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, and many, many, others.
These are powerful tools we’re talking about, and more are being created every day. Even the ability to quickly send money abroad has transformed the landscape of alternative finance, as people in San Fransisco can easily fund promising projects on the other side of the world. Just imagine the power of this ability. In fact, you don’t have to imagine, because this handy little graphic highlights the phenomenon quite well.
So what does the future hold? We can only guess, but I suspect that crowdfunding will continue to grow at an alarming rate, perhaps driven by current and upcoming cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin that are just starting to get their feet.
It’s an exciting time we live in, especially if you’re trying to fund one of your big ideas. Maybe one day I’ll be reading about a sweet new gadget you created on the front page of one of these crowdfunding platforms. I certainly hope so anyway!
