If you work at a desk and aren’t sitting in the right chair, you may be doing a disservice for your health. Improper posture can lead to spinal problems and even affect your hearing, vision, and stomach. It is best to find an ergonomic chair that promotes good posture and keeps you comfortable. Here are some things to look for when searching for the right chair.
Adjustability
You should be able to adjust your chair to fit your height and proportions. This means that there should be mechanisms that allow you to raise and lower the height of the chair as well as adjust the armrests and angle of the back support. When you can customize your chair’s position to fit your body, you will be far more comfortable.
Lumbar Support
Your spine has a natural inward curve, and you should find a chair with a lumbar support that can be made to match this curve. If you don’t support your spine, you will begin to slouch, and this can lead to poor posture in the long run. Your chair should have an adjustable lumbar support so that your back can be healthier and more comfortable.
Material
The material on your chair should have enough padding to provide comfort for long periods of time. It should also be breathable so that you don’t get too hot when sitting down.
Mobility
If you have to move around a lot, you will want to find a chair with wheels, especially in a large office. A swiveling seat allows you even more freedom to get work done at a large desk. Without a swivel, you will have to strain to get to the more remote regions of your desk and this can be highly uncomfortable.
