Thermal Drone Finds Missing Kidnapped Girl in Boston

Drones are now starting to be a constant member of emergency services. Police departments all over the world have started acquiring drones, at least one per station. The ability of a drone to fly to great heights is an amazing and essential advantage for police work. It gives the responders a bird’s eye view of the situation – which can make or break any case. Efficiency is the name of the game. Response time directly correlates whether a victim lives or dies. Investigation time dictates whether a crime investigation takes sufficient leads and data.

Boston Thermal Drone Rescue

This week, a drone recently helped save a girl who was kidnapped and raped. The 16-year-old managed to call the police and tell them about the situation. Unfortunately, the girl did not know where she was, giving little leads for the police to follow. All she could tell was that she was ‘‘huge old industrial complex surrounded by an eight foot fence’.

It was a great thing that the Police Department of Boston, Lincolnshire had a drone on standby. The drone had a thermal camera onboard, which proved vital in finding the missing girl. Police located the girl mere minutes after a quick thermal scan from the drone. The area lit up and pinpointed with extreme accuracy heat signatures – one of which was the girl’s. The Lincolnshire Police also found the suspect in the area. The man in his 30s found himself apprehended for questioning and detained for further investigation.

While the news about the girl is grim, the silver lining is that it could have gotten worse – but was prevented by a timely and very efficient rescue mission. Thanks to the drone and a very capable police force, the girl found helping hands and is now currently under medical evaluation. A good day’s work for the boys in blue – and their flying sidekick.
