Seven Must-Have Travel Apps

My smartphone is like a compass (in part because one of these apps is a compass), because it helps me in my travels so much from the planning stages to actually vacationing. It’s all right there on that tiny screen. Here are all the apps you’ll want to have on your phone if you love to travel.

Seven must-have travel apps

1.     Any compass app

Most modern smartphone OSs come with a built-in compass app to help you get around, so just make sure that it hasn’t been deleted and that you know how to use it. You can consider adding it to your home screen too if it’s easier, especially if you plan to spend a lot of time off the grid where there isn’t good service.

2.     Airbnb

This one’s a no-brainer and most people already have traveled using Airbnb, but it’s worth downloading and signing up to even if you have all of your accommodation covered, just because it’s easier to communicate with your host through the app and a great way to book spontaneous excursions.

3.     Uber/Lyft

A ride share app is a must-have app no matter where you’re visiting, assuming that they’re actually able to operate in the country. It’s the easiest way to get from one place to another and drivers quite often know the local area better than any tourist guide and can take you to the best places. You can also check their ratings before you ever get into the car.

4.     Instagram

One of the best things about going on vacation is that you can take a ton of awesome photographs, and Instagram is the best place to share them because unlike Snapchat, they’ll stick around and you can look back at them in the future. Need a refresher on taking aesthetically-pleasing photos? No problem, click here!

5.     Translation apps

If you’re visiting a country that speaks a different language, downloading and installing a translation app will help you to navigate the local language easier. It serves as a quick reference when you forget how to say something like “restaurant” and are starting to get the grumbles. y . Google Translate is always a good fallback. One of my favorite language apps is Duolingo to learn a new language in an entertaining way.

6.     Google/Apple Pay

Google and Apple Pay are super useful because you can quickly and easily pay for things on the go even if you don’t have your bank card with you. Even if it’s not your first choice of payment option, it’s a good backup to have.

7.     TripAdvisor

With over 830 million reviews and ratings on the site, TripAdvisor is the go-to place when you want to know what’s worth visiting. If you download and use the TripAdvisor app on your smartphone, you can also use its location features to find out what’s nearby.

Conclusion

Ultimately, whether you take a cruise from Seattle or whether you fly off to Europe, the tips I’ve shared today should help you to get the most from your phone while you’re travelling. Just be sure to download them all before you leave to save your data! Happy travels.
