Winter season finally ends. The cold months that kept you indoors with closed windows are finally over. The sun gives that warm touch you oh so craved during the months of winter. Now, you can finally go out and enjoy nature. But wait. Buzzing in the distance. And with them come all sorts of nasty diseases that transfer from person to person. Conditions that not only is hazardous to everyone in the vicinity, but are also deadly if untreated.
Yes, the cold is gone, but mosquitoes are now everywhere. So really, what’s there to enjoy?
Mosquito Problems Globally:
Mosquitoes have always been a pest amongst the populace. They seemingly breed in the most hostile of conditions, and they carry diseases wherever they go. The best we can do is close our doors and windows, and hope nothing got inside. Sure, as humanity progressed through the decades, we tried various things to help eradicate this problem. We tried smoke, electric zappers, and even sound makers that repel mosquitoes supposedly.
But they will always be there in the shadows. Lurking, multiplying, and waiting. Waiting for the opportune moment to spread their diseases to people in the area. Dengue Fever, Malaria, Filariasis, and Zika Fever are only a few dangerous diseases that spread via mosquitoes. The world is full of varieties of mosquitoes and with them come even more of these conditions.
There has been no guaranteed way to stop these flying pests from taking over. Until now.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has made a fascinating announcement this week. It involves the use of drones to counteract mosquito problems. The project involves drones deploying airborne radiation which in turn sterilizes male mosquitoes.
With the use of drones, this solution can find its way into larger populated areas. Drones also make sure the radiation spread quickly, leaving little room for error. It would also be a far cheaper approach compared to doing it manually. The drone can cover 20 hectares of area in 5 minutes of flight.
This mosquito drone system has been green-lit by the United Nations. Soon, they may deploy in Asian countries ravaged by mosquito problems. Only time will tell if humanity has found its final solution to this age old problem.
Maybe in a few years we can officially say adios to these pests for good.
