K1 Syringe – One Use Only Syringes

Star K1 Syringe disposable syringe that can only be used once

Although disposable syringes have been in use for a long time, these are still reusable. A vast majority of insulin-dependent diabetics are often required to inject insulin several times a day. Since self-destruct syringes for insulin use are not readily available in most parts of the world, these syringes are often reused especially in the economically deprived regions, thus causing the spread of blood-related diseases such as hepatitis and HIV. A World Health Organization study shows that unsafe reuse of medical syringes is the cause of 1.3 million deaths each year.

A product, Star Syringes’ K1 Auto Disposable syringe has been developed by K Safety Technology which is designed especially to be used only once, making reuse impossible. A small ring that’s etched on the inside of the syringe’s barrel allows the plunger to go in one direction only, unlike standard syringes. After one injection, the barrel automatically locks and will break if forced, making the syringe useless. The mechanism can be easily incorporated into syringes produced on existing manufacturing lines, hence minimizing production costs.

This innovative product is approved by UNICEF, WHO and ISO and will ensure greater safety for healthcare workers and patients around the world.
