Hanger Chair – Seating And Storage All In One Unit

Regardless of the house, townhouse, or apartment you move into there will always be the issue of not having enough space. Even if you do have extra space, it won’t be long before it’s all used up. For people who don’t have much seating space for house guests, they generally go the folding chair route but even those take up space when not in use. The solution is the Hanger Chair by Philippe Malouin.

Philippe, a Canadian design artist, creates decor pieces, art installations, and unique furniture. His idea is to create an elegant and unique looking chair that has multiple uses. In this case, seating people and hanging clothes when not being sat on. Now you will always have an extra hanger or an extra chair hanging around. It’s designed with a loop on the top so that it may fold completely flat as well as hung up.

The idea of the Hanger Chair was first thought of while Philippe was studying at Design Academy Eindhoven in 2008 as part of a series of space saving objects. The Hanger Chair then moved along to become part of a series released for Umbra Shift, a company that works with designers to bring experimental designs to the market place.

The Hanger Chair is constructed using Baltic Birch plywood and is able to hold up to 300 pounds of weight on each chair. It’s available in a number of colors to choose from and measures in at 25.5-inches long X 18.5-inches wide X 1.5-inches deep (when folded). The Hanger Chair is available on Umbra Shift for $200 CAD.
