Stonehenge Structure Discovered by Drone in Ireland

There are just some things you can’t see while tethered to the ground. Ever since the dawn of time, humanity has envied the wings of birds and the view they see. That is why people have created all sorts of devices so they can fly like these majestic creatures. Planes, helicopters, and now drones. Being able to see at a bird’s eye view keeps getting more available and affordable for you and me. Because of that, anyone can explore this vast world of ours. No longer do you need a pilot’s license to be able to fly.

This means, even in this current day and age, we can still discover things on this planet.

A Second Stonehenge:

In Newgrange, Ireland for example, a drone spotted what appears to be another Stonehenge. Yes, the very same prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England that has fascinated people since the early ages. Now, one has to ask this question: how is it possible that such a large monument only discovered in 2018?

Two circumstances lead to this incredible discovery. The first, the area is currently experiencing a drought. Heatwaves bombarded the area wilting crops. This created a scenario where the structure can get visibility if one is high enough. The lack of crops made it possible to see, in an area that usually hides from sight. The wheat field directly above the discovery has almost always been lively and lush. This made it harder to notice anything from above. The second is the availability of drones. On foot, one can only see parts of the big picture. Sure, you can see rock formations on the ground, but without an eye in the sky, you will never see the entirety.

The structure consists of dark markings that form a perfect circle. The full size of the circle can fit in about one and a half football fields. And yes, even with its large size, the structure evaded discovery – from people – for centuries.

After its discovery, archeologists began studying it. In their initial findings, the circled structure appears to be an ancient community center. The creation estimates to have occurred around 5,000 years ago. This means that the structure remained untouched and undiscovered the entire time.
