Drones are replacing human workers, inspectors, photographers, and even first responders in emergency. But another (and more fun) trend that drones interact with is racing. Yes, it’s basically Formula 1 or Nascar racing, with drones. Operators stand by and race against each other in tracks with obstacles. First one to the finish line is the winner.
This drone racing concept is a middle ground between virtual (video games) and actual (Nascar). A best of both worlds, as it may. You get the thrill of the race without the dangers of crashing. You also get to interact with the physical aspect of the racers, repairing and maintaining parts. The risks to your vehicle would still be there, but not the risks to its driver. If you crash your car in a race, you not only have to deal with repairs, you may also get injured. For drones, you only have to repair or replace parts. While you on the other hand are still safe in the sidelines.
The drone racing community is growing more and more, to the point that they have regular TV spots in sports channels even. It’s competition between individuals, or even teams for larger events. This idea truly looks like it flew from the pages of a science fiction novel. But it’s actually here, and it is really fun!

Another appeal or attraction is the first person perspective for drones. Think about it. You have the eyes from the drone’s point of view. Racing against other UAVs in an obstacle course. This concept goes beyond virtual reality. Racers would truly feel like they are part of the race. They can feel like a racer from an actual race car from F1, without fears of injury from crashes.
Similar to other competition, this drone racing field can also yield monetary gains. Competitions spring up all over the country and even the globe, giving drone racers opportunities regularly. The goal of this sport is to bring more awareness and information on drones. However, the money rewards and thrill of the chase are still a big plus.
