Climate Change Protests to disrupt Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Airport has been the site of many drone incidents of the past couple of years. Now, climate change may soon be an issue for the woe-filled area.

In fact, these drone sightings have shut down many outgoing flights, as well as delayed and rerouted countless incoming ones. Suffice to say, a drone at this particular airport has been bad news for everyone – the passengers, the plane crew, and the airport security as well.

Climate Change Protests

A new issue regarding drones and Heathrow Airport may cause problems again for the area. This time however, it does not involve lone drone flyers trying to catch a glimpse of the Heathrow landscape. In the next month or so, drones flying over Heathrow will be intentional – all from those wanting to take a stand against climate change.

Yes, a group of climate change activists in the United Kingdom plan on flooding the drone-plagued airport with even more drones. They intend to create a delay – if not a complete stoppage – of outgoing and incoming flights for more than a few days.

Reasons and Repercussions

Why Heathrow airport, of all places, you ask? Well, it turns out the airport has recently started plans on a third new runway, which can hurt the local area with construction and added air traffic.

Of course, with stricter UK rules regarding drones, you may not see the drones directly at the runway. With the country’s 5-kilometer airport ban on drones, the protesters plan on following this rule and flooding their drones at the 5k limit. This may not be as ‘direct’ as sending hundreds of drones above the airport, but this can still send a message. It also does not violate any regulations, and does not pose a direct threat to the planes of the area.

Climate Issues

They plan to halt airport activity for days – a feat that has not been done without causing massive issues on flights. The Gatwick incident proves that even a day’s worth of delays can cause madness at a grand scale.
