FCC Seeks to Fine Fax.com $5 Million

The Aliso Viejo, California-based company faxed messages on 489 separate occasions on behalf of clients for a fee and tried to conceal its involvement, the FCC said in a statement.

“Despite repeated warnings from the commission and numerous consumer complaints, the company appears to have made no effort to mend its ways,” FCC Commissioner Kathleen Abernathy said in a statement.

Attempts to contact representatives of the company were not immediately successful. The company has 30 days to challenge to the proposed fine or pay it.

The FCC also said it issued more than 100 citations and letters to companies inquiring about using Fax.com to send advertisements to fax machines. The citations warned that they could be fined up to $11,000 per violation if they continued to send unsolicited faxes.
