The more you practice, the better you become. You may wonder about drone video editing or how to edit drone footage to make it look perfect but the main thing is how to make a great drone video.

Here are the 11 tips which I have learned over time and now I am going to share it with you so that you can make professional videos. If a viewer likes your video, he is more likely to view your other videos and hire you for the task – this is why good video making is equally important.

1- Plan your whole video before making it

It is good to plan the whole video before even shooting it. It may seem a challenge to plan a whole video before even flying your drone over the site but this is a necessary step. Once you have planned you shoot, then you will find it easy to go with the direction of the shoot. Choose the starting point, ending theme and try to cover the actual purpose in the video. For planning, it is important that you have a complete understanding of the site area where you are going to shoot your video.

2- Go slow with your video making

There is a famous proverb, ‘slow and steady wins the race’. The same proverb applies here in drone videography. The slower you go, the more beautiful you are likely to capture the video. You will show different angles to your viewers and they will be able to understand the view. You can always speed up the fast video but if you start from the fast video you are more likely to ruin it. The slow and steady video gives a cinematic feeling which is not easy to achieve but with practice, it can be done.

3- Fly near to the ground level

In windy season, height is dangerous for your drone. It can potentially damage your drone. Besides, the very hot sun is not good for your drone. So it is preferable that you keep your drone near the ground and do not take it to so many heights. Flying high is good, it can give a different view to your video. An aerial view can increase the value of your drone video but you should not do it all the time. Your main purpose should be to have a controlled drone which in unlikely at height.

4- Fly your drone in backward

To make your drone video look more professional and cinematic, you should definitely try flying your drone in a backward direction. When you are moving forward, you are actually focusing on one thing in your video but the overall view remains the same. While when you move your video in a backward direction, more things come into the video and more objects are revealed which give the video an exciting look. Flying backward is not easy and it demands a lot of practice but once you have got your hands over it, you will love doing it.

5- Avoid Rough Place

When you stand in a rough place, you cannot capture a steady and beautiful video. Jerky movements are highly disliked by viewers as they cannot watch the video smoothly. It is highly disliked that you keep on moving your camera throughout the video. Your camera should be steady despite the fact you move or not. This is why there are stands available that do not let your camera move, no matter you walk or jump or pass through a rough surface.

6- Do not focus on the main object only

When you are making a video, your main focus should be to keep the viewer interested in the video and this will not happen if you only keep your focus on one thing and not on any other thing. There are a whole lot of things to focus on. Try capturing the video from different angles. Try moving your drone to various levels and in various positions as it will give your video a new look. Do not focus on one object only, things around your main objectives are as important as the main object.

7- Take advantage of Golden Hour

Golden hour is a time when the sky is almost golden, it is after sunrise and before sunset – the two most beautiful scenes. In golden hours everything seems beautiful so you must take advantage of it by all means. Try not to capture your video in the afternoon as the bright light will damage your camera lens. Make drone videos in golden hours as the sun is less warm and softer in these hours, and it will not hurt your drone health.

8- Add a sound effect in your video

Sound effects are mainly used to attract viewers and build their interest. A piece of perfect music with your video which contrasts with it can make your video go viral. Here, the important thing is to choose the right kind of music. If you end up choosing a video that does not compliment your video, you will actually decrease the likeliness of your video. Similarly, if you choose the right kind of music, you will increase the rating of your video. There are paid as well as free music available on the internet which you can use.

9- Do not shoot one video only

If you shoot one video only, you will not have a chance to edit or change the video from the parts from where you dislike it. To make a perfect video, always capture more than one video and then edit it later on. You can cut off the video from the parts where you do not like it and add new parts to it.

10- Know the regulations of drone flight in your area

It is very much important that you read the rules and regulations of the areas in which you are planning to fly a drone. Every area is different from the other one. Some areas are restricted by the government for any kind of flights in order to not disrupt the signals. Besides, the area near the airport is not allowed for drone flights as to not disrupt air traffic.

11- Edit your drone video

No matter how much professional you are but a video always needs a final editing touch. You can add or cut some parts in the video. Besides, you can add video effects which can make it more attractive for the viewers. Transitions, animations, and light filters will surely increase the quality of your drone video.
