Lumio: The Folding Book Lamp

Lumio Book Lamp

Here’s yet another great project being pitched on KickStarter, the Lumio Folding Book Lamp.  Lumio is a lamp that looks like a book when off; to turn it on, simply open the book and the pages are illuminated to give you light.

The project was placed on KickStarter on February 12, 2013, with a goal of raising $60,000.  As of this writing, over $280,000 has been pledged; I’m not the only one that thinks this folding book lamp is pretty cool.  The lamp is the brainchild of designer Max Gunawan and is designed to be multipurpose and portable.

When the book is opened, the pages (like an accordion) can be opened just a little bit or up to a full 360 degrees, resulting in a round lamp.  One of the unique aspects of the Lumio book lamp is that it can be placed vertically, horizontally, upside down, or sideways.  The possibilities are endless and the design of the lamp is very aesthetically pleasing; helping bring style and light into any geek’s life.  The Lumio book lamp would make the perfect companion to the Fake Window Blind Lamp or even the Bible iPhone case.

The Lumio book lamp comes with a wood cover; available in Blonde Maple, Warm Cherry, and Dark Walnut.  The body of the lamp is made out of recyclable Tyvek, with built-in LED lights and a Lithium Ion battery which lasts up to 8 hours with constant use.  The lamp measures 8.5” tall, 7” wide, and 1.25” thick and weight approximately 1 pound.

Pledge $95 to get on the waiting list for the second batch of these cool lamps, the first batch is already sold out.
