The word’s geek and nerd are terms that seem to often be used in interchangeable manner. When we get down to the actual definitions of each of these words there are some differences however. If you are interested to know which category or word might define you, consider some of this top info in determining the difference in whether or not you are a geek or a nerd:

Nerd

A nerd is generally one that is described as a studious and well-read intellectual. Nerds are usually individuals that are experts in a particular field or topic. They are also regularly focused on achievements that they can focus their efforts on acquiring new knowledge such as greater skills and trivia, improved skills in a board game and more.

Geek

A geek is described as someone that is more oriented towards collections. Geeks are relatively focused on the idea of gathering mementos and facts related to various subjects of a particular interest. They’re often quite obsessed with the idea of getting the newest and trendiest items for their home or the hottest new collectibles.

While both nerds and geeks can be particularly dedicated to subjects as well as sometimes socially awkward, it is the light distinction between the two ideas that actually helps to define a real difference between the two subgroups.

Which Are You? 

Determining if you are a geek or a nerd really comes down to the idea of your hobbies and interests. If you consider yourself to be more of an academic that wants to be a defined expert in a particular field, that could make you more of a nerd. If you’re the type of person that has to regularly collect and you enjoy hobbies like collecting toys or pop-culture items, you could be more on the trendy side or geek side.
