Summer of terror? Freak yourself out with the top horror films on Netflix

Are you the type of person who watches most of a horror film through your fingers, trembling? Or are you the person who sits right next to them laughing? If you’re a fan of the horror genre, you’re all set for the summer with Film Oracle’s Netflix horror list, a comprehensive list of the very best horror films to be found on the streaming site at the moment.

How to: Affordable ways to shoot your own films

Some studies say horror films are an ideal choice for your next date night: the scariness gives us an adrenaline rush and gets our blood pumping, a heightened state of arousal, and can also give us the desire to hold each other tight. It can also be a great way to bond with friends who enjoy the horror genre.

There are plenty of options to choose from, including ghost stories, zombies, witch hunts, dark supernatural forces, demonic possessions, vampires, slasher movies and psychological thrillers. Many classic horrors date from the 70s and 80s, but there are big hits at the box office almost every year – there’s an apparently insatiable appetite among movie-goers to be scared out of their wits.

According to Film Oracle, these are the top 10 choices:

  1. The Wailing: A dark force arrives in a South Koreak town wreaking havoc
  2. Under the Shadow: A mysterious spirit invades a Tehranian building where a mother and daughter are sheltering from war.
  3. Carrie: An outcast teen develops supernatural powers just in time for prom
  4. Train to Busan: An apocalyptic nightmare with zombies attacking
  5. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street:  A barber butchers his customers and sings jaunty songs about it
  6. The Witch: A spooky with-hunt set in New England in the 1630s
  7. Poltergeist: A family home is haunted by spirits with unfinished business
  8. Green Room: A couple of friends accidentally witness a neo-Nazi murder
  9. Creep 2: In a rare turn of events, the sequel upstages the original in this psychological thriller
  10. Zombieland: The undead stage an uprising
