The coldest months of the year are here, and for many, that means more time to play video games. While there are certainly many hot new releases coming out over the next few months, there are some titles that stand out above the rest. These games are not only going to take up a great deal of your attention, but they’re also going to make you wonder exactly where all of your time has gone. It’s safe to say that these are the video games that you will most likely be binging during the winter.
CyberPunk 2077
The much-delayed CyberPunk 2077 (check out this t-shirt for the game) is finally coming out this winter, the perfect time for those who want to dive into the game’s gritty world. Developed by the same people who brought the likewise-binge-worthy Witcher 3, this game is designed for deep dives that might take days at a time.
A first-person roleplaying game with a lot of emphasis on player choice, it features a massive world that’s sure to draw players in. With all the possibilities inherent in this game, it makes sense that many players are already planning to take time off of work to dive into this game.
Among Us
Among Us is a game that’s become as much of a meme as an experience. Sort of a sci-fi take on classic games like Werewolf or Mafia, it tasks the bulk of the players in a round to conduct basic tasks while other players are assigned to secretly take out the rest of the team. Players vote on who to kick out over time, with the goal being to either eliminate all the intruders or for the intruders to take out all of the regular players.
This is a seriously addicting game that requires social skills as much as it requires the ability to play the game. Easy to play on virtually any smartphone, you can get a group of friends together to play it or play with strangers online. It’s definitely going to eat up more of your time than you might expect.
Fall Guys
Fall Guys is a simple, dumb obstacle course game that’s become incredibly popular because of just how easy it is to fall into the process of playing game after game. This is legitimately the kind of game that you’ll play for hours at a time, always hoping to finally win at least one more round so that you can feel like you’ve accomplished something.
Hopefully, you have a doctorate in marriage and family therapy because this game is just that addicting. The controls are simple if a little odd, the games are easy to pick up even if you’ve never played a video game before, and the rounds are short enough that you can easily pass the controller back and forth between players. This game has all the elements you need for a binge-able game.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
UbiSoft has become quite adept at creating massive games over the years, and the latest entry in the Assassin’s Creed series certainly seems to be no different than the rest. Featuring a giant map with plenty to do around every corner, it’s a game that seems tailor-made to be played for dozens of hours.
The real story behind this game, though, is the various story paths. Not only will you deal with the series’ trademark dual narratives in the past and present, but you’ll also get access to dozens of new stories that are just begging to be played through. If you’re the kind of player who wants to see what’s over the next horizon, this game is going to take up a lot of your time.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands
After sixteen years, World of Warcraft pretty much defines games that inspire binging. Its latest expansion, Shadowlands, is not only full of new content and new adventures, but it’s almost certainly going to keep growing during the coldest months of the year. Blizzard has become a master at keeping their players engaged through the life of an expansion, and that’s never more true than during the early days of the game.
You can’t just jump into World of Warcraft and play a little bit. Instead, you’ve got to plan on spending weeks developing a character, getting the right gear, and learning how to play the game. This isn’t just a game that players want to binge but rather one that demands that style of play.
