It was an exciting year for gamers, so we’re closing out the year with an homage to some of our favorite games of 2018. New technology, some of our favorite gaming accessories, and some epic games were some highlights in the last year.
Let’s dive into the games that made 2018 great and take a look at where video gaming is heading as we head into 2019.
The Tetris Effect debuted in November of this year and has taken over the moderate and advanced gaming communities. Its addictive puzzle interface was developed by Monstars Inc. and has been described by The Verge as “perfect for people overwhelmed by modern video games.” This is a beautifully designed game for the masses, no matter what your experience is with gaming.
In a world of shooter games and post-apocalyptic survival, this game brings in some nostalgic and innocent gaming that any gamer or non-gamer will enjoy. But consider yourself warned – you could be strapped to your chair for hours on end solving these challenging puzzles, so might we recommend our favorite USB cooler cushion.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 was one of the best-reviewed games of 2018. This edition is the prequel to Red Dead Redemption, dropped in November of this year. Its arrival was highly anticipated and fans were not disappointed according to Red Dead Redemption 2 reviews, praising the addition of the first-person perspective as well as the cinematic mode.
This rendition has really taken illustration to the next level – immersing the player into the realities of the wild west with hunting and animal skinnings, communication with other players, and customizable weapons. Plus, with an expanded gamescape you get the chance to really explore with homes and stores where your avatar can interact with objects and others.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate
With another updated adaptation of the classic Super Smash Bros, Mario is back again along with up to 1300 collectible characters in this whimsical game. Reviewers say this rendition takes the series to a whole new level as the Ultimate stands alone with more robust features and a more comprehensive gamescape than the previous four editions combined. Also noted in gaming forums was the faster reactions and agility of the fighters – adding some additional challenge and excitement in this edition.
Ni No Kuni 2
Ni No Kuni 2 is not only among 2018’s top games, but also as far as we’re concerned – some of the best potential for awesome cosplay. The super bright and fantastical gamescape gives gamers the chance to indulge in the playful world of Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum and his motley crew of fairy tale heroes.
The fun colors and royal costumes are practically made for cosplay – so we’re sure you can expect to see these at gaming and comic conventions in 2019. So get your props ready, and follow our cosplay travel guidelines so you’re prepared for an entire season of gaming conventions, wherever you’re headed.
In one of the most unique games in 2018, Subnautica finally released its final version from their 2014 prototype. In an underwater survival gamescape, players get to explore the reefs, volcanoes, and wildlife in a colorful and dangerous alien world.
Gamers use the resources they collect in this alien world to craft survival equipment like diving gear and weapons. Subnautica’s oceanic creatures are probably the highlight in this game with refined imagery that incites a feeling of adventure in the gamer.
