Canada Open to more Delivery Drone Presence

Drone deliveries grow in number with every passing year. This 2019, big plans are in store for the Canadian side of things. Drone Delivery Canada, a corporation built around drone technology, may soon expand to larger cities. The company plans to spread further into the Ontario areas, testing their delivery prowess at a larger scale.

Drone Delivery Canada

They plan to create a Commercial Operations Center in Vaughan, Ontario. This Center can house hundreds of drones, and up to 25 drone operators to oversee the process. The Center also delivers local and internationally. Currently, they are testing (as well as using) various medium-sized drones for delivery called the Sparrow. These can reach 1-2 kilometers per trip. They can also carry up to 5 kilograms of cargo in their compartments.

Of course, the vision of Drone Delivery Canada does not stop at the Sparrow’s reach. They plan to have larger drones at their disposal. This means larger carrying capacity, as well as a farther reach.

Delivery Obstacles

Of course, not everything is clear skies surrounding drone deliveries. These flying machines still have to overcome some obstacles before replacing old delivery methods entirely.

Privacy for example is a major concern voiced out by people considering using drones for deliveries. What do you think about flying drones above your home? Some may feel unnerved because of the lack of privacy these camera-equipped drones can bring.

Another issue is the range. A drone’s flight time and reach all depends on the battery. The battery dictates how far a drone can go and how long it can fly. This means two things.

One, a drone has an upper limit on where they can deliver. Short trips means they can only go to areas surrounding their home centers. This severely limits where they can go. Another is that recharging stations must become more common. These can act as rest stops for drones during travel, recharging their batteries for longer reach.
