On September 21, the GBAS 2019 6th World Nobel Laureate Biomedical Summit was successfully held at Shenzhen.
The Summit is hosted by China Association of Chinese Medicine, China International Science and Technology Exchange Center, China High-tech Industrialization Association, China Pharmaceutical Industry Association, China Association for Science and Technology, International Society of Scientific Communications for Nobel Prize Laureates (ISSCNL), and Shenzhen Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Association, and organized byWorld Medical Exchange Center (Beijing), Cenozoic Era Culture & Media Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Shinuo University Research Investment and Development Co., Ltd., and Shenzhen Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine Heritage.
Nearly 1,000 people attended the summit. Nobel Prize laureates, renowned academicians at home and abroad and masters of Chinese medicine, as well as many renowned entrepreneurs and members of international think tanks, gathered together to exchange ideas, deeply analyze future wisdom medical management and practice, seek new opportunities for integration and innovation, and explore the new pattern of life and health in the Dawan District, creating a better medical ecological system.
Main Forum: Experts Decoded the New Patterns of Life and Health
Wang Guoqiang, chairman of GBAS 2019 World Nobel Laureate Biomedical Summit, former deputy director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission of PRC, former director of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and president of the China Association of Chinese Medicine; Aaron Ciechanover, winner of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and honorary chairman of World Medical Exchange Center (Beijing); Liu Yanning, director of Organizing Committee of the Summit and vice-president of China High-tech Industrialization Association; Luo Lexuan, secretary of the Health Working Committee of Shenzhen Municipal Committee, director of Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission and secretary of the Party Committee, and other leaders gave an opening speech to the Summit, expressing their hope that more people will understand Shenzhen, a young city, to promote innovative and leapfrog development of life and health industry with an international and national perspective, achieve cross-border integration, and cooperate with Hong Kong and Macao to build a systematic, diversified and international exchange platform for the inheritance, innovation and development of traditional Chinese medicine, further providing people all over the world with all-round and full-cycle health services.
Erwin Neher, the winner of 1991 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, gave a brilliant keynote speech titled “Ion Channels as Targets for Drugs, Poisons and Spices” Based on his years of research experience, he explained profound ion channels with simple terms and claimed that it was a very important target, playing a significant role in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
Tang Nong, the president of Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine, believed that as the quintessence of China, Chinese medicine has its development guaranteed by national law, which brings the new light and fresh hope. A platform that “everyone understands with sound clinical results, further inheritance, and characteristic development” should be built to explore a reasonable training mode while promoting the integration of medical university, research, medicine and industry.
How can all-optical methods affect brain, this most important organ of the human body? Michael Hausser, academician of the Academia Europaea, said that different functions could be detected by light of different wavelengths, and then the flashes were positioned to locate the neurons. Two ways were discovered by him: first, in terms of recording, optical inheritance can relieve the pressure of scientific research to some extent; and secondly, in the revolution of optical inheritance, a method was extracted from algae that could control the activity of neurons with blu-ray.
With the theme of “Frontier and Practice of Global Innovative Drug Discovery”, Zhang Ziran, vice president of China Pharmaceutical Industry Association, hosted the talk. Aaron Ciechanover, president of the Summit and winner of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Thomas Südhof, winner of 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Erwin Neher, winner of 1991 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Hong Hao, chairman and CEO of Asymchem, and Chen Mingjian, founder of founder of Holyhigh carried out high-level talks, exploring infinite possibilities of drug research and development from professional perspectives, and ways to overcome the difficulties of market access for innovative drugs.
Four theme forums were focused on the whole industry of life and health
At the same time, the Summit held four major theme forums: the Global Biomedical Innovation Conference, Chinese Medicine Industry University and Research Innovation Forum, Cross Straits, Hong Kong and Macao Collaborative Innovation Forum on Intelligent Medicine, and the International Project Road Show. Nearly 100 guests were invited to talk about debated issues in the industry, including immunotherapy, integrated medicine, precision medicine, traditional Chinese medicine and intelligent medicine, grasped frontier achievements, and improved and optimized the unique health industry chain in the Bay Area.
In the Global Biomedical Innovation Conference, frontier trends of global biomedicine, and new ideas and technologies such as immunotherapy, integrated medicine, precision medicine and transformational medicine were focused, which could effectively promote the rapid integration of biopharmaceutical industry, university and research. At the same time, the unveiling ceremony of Nobel Laureate Big Health Industry Club was held on the spot. Sheng Xueming, the executive director of the organizing committee of World Nobel Laureate Biomedical Summit, and Pan Guangcheng, executive chairman of China Pharmaceutical Industry Association awarded the certificate to 8 entrepreneurs, including Guo Xia, chairman of Venturepharma Holdings, and Yang Zhihua, deputy director of Pharmaceutical Safety/Warning of FMD China. It was hoped that this platform could better promote the development of the whole industry.
Global biomedicine is not simply a study of western basic disciplines. In the Chinese Medicine Industry University and Research Innovation Forum, many experts of vertical industry of traditional Chinese medicine discussed ways to give full play to the advantages of traditional medicine in prevention, rehabilitation and treatment, establish and improve the disciplinary system of traditional Chinese medicine treatment, promote the sustainable development and new drug development in the field of traditional Chinese medicine research, and enhance international exchanges and cooperation in the field of traditional Chinese medicine treatment research. The forum was aimed to explore new ideas, methods, industrial chains and value chains for the internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine in Dawan District.
How can we use new technologies to empower the medical field, such as intelligent medicine, an important application of livelihood in smart city strategic planning? Starting from the main application scenarios of intelligent medicine, Cross Straits, Hong Kong and Macao Collaborative Innovation Forum on Intelligent Medicine explored how smart medicine integrated new information technologies and biotechnologies, such as big data, cloud computing, Internet of Things, and mobile Internet, to improve the level and efficiency of medical services, and innovate health management and service modes.
At the International Project Road Show, 9 high-quality projects such as RTX-VIII project on new drugs for autoimmune diseases, ENVIVE project of artificial intelligence assistant diagnosis platform and Cytopedia cell enrichment system project were shown. Through project roadshow, an innovative and entrepreneurial atmosphere was created in Dawan District, attracting excellent enterprises and projects to settle in Shenzhen and even Dawan District, building a joint innovation incubation platform, and creating a new mode of integration of industry, university, research and investment in Shenzhen.
It is worth noting that this Summit is not only based on western basic disciplines, but also combines the research of traditional Chinese medicine in bio-medicine and other fields to realize the coordination of “two networks”, namely traditional Chinese and Western medicine, achieve cross-perspective, cross-level, cross-regional exchanges, and further benefit mankind.
