Barbados Drone Ban in Full Effect

When one thinks of Barbados, the fantastic views all over the island are always a highlight. Trips to this eastern Caribbean island often come with plenty of snapshots for the travel home.

Barbados Drone Ban

Over the past five years, drone popularity has skyrocketed. The idea of taking photographs from an aerial point of view is unmatched. It gives drone owners an entirely fresh perspective of the world around them. Drones have also become more available, with tech stores selling them at a reasonable price. Because of these factors, drones are often a great companion when going for a trip. Instead of simply relying on a camera to capture moments, an eye from the sky makes the trip that much more memorable.

In Barbados however, the world of drones has faced a tremendous roadblock. The island nation banned drones from being imported elsewhere, while also preventing approval of new licenses. This ban has been around for a few years now, starting in 2016, and receiving extensions every now and then.

A Potential Roadblock

Older drone owners who had a license to fly before the ban can still renew licenses. Newer, interested drone owners however cannot. This prevents a new batch of drone owners from ever soaring to the skies. Tourists with drones are also in trouble as soon as they step foot on the island nation. Bringing a drone in can lead to fines, confiscations, and other issues while within the country.

For tourists planning to visit Barbados, it is a good idea to leave your drone at home and use the traditional camera for shots. Bringing your drone can only lead to trouble, and the best you can hope for is to have your drone returned as soon as you leave the area. Flying within the country is an absolute no-go, and it would require special considerations in order to have your drone off the ground.
