DigiTimes is reporting that ASUS plans to launch an Android-based handset by the end of the year.  No details other than a fourth quarter launch.  Will it make it to the US?  What bands will it support?  Will it have a slide-out QWERTY?  More questions than answers at this point, but having another major OEM like ASUS entering the market will only mean a brighter future for Google’s smartphone OS.

Asus EeeBox PC EB1501

Asus-EeeBox PC EB1501-0

With a dual-core Atom N330 processor, 2GB of DDR2-800 RAM (expandable to 4GB), 250GB hard disk, andNvidia Ion graphics, this delicious looking Eee PC features Windows 7 and Slot-loading DVD-RW.

The lack of a blu-ray drive isn’t much of a deterrent for me, but it may be the one thing that makes this thing less than perfect for someone looking for a super-lightweight HTPC.

UPDATE:  Seems ASUS has scrapped this board for no particular reason — at least no reason they’re willing to share publicly.

The ASUS P6x58 Premium features two USB 3.0 ports moving at 4.8 Gb/sec and SATA 3.0 interface clocking in at 6 Gb/sec.  A ton of pics and more specs at XFastest.

DigiTimes has the full-coverage story. We’ll see mid-range (4670/50), followed by entry-level (4550) cards from AMD this month, & they’re still on track to get their first 45nm chips out the door before the end of the year. Fudzilla’s got the english run-down on ASUS’ 4670 offering plus a link to the original story which includes a photo. Non-reference cooling & HDMI in store. Graphics processing on the cheap, anyone?
