Building a Change Management Lab for a Microsoft Server environment

This article has been a long time coming, and is the main reason you haven't heard from me in a while.  About a year ago I started researching the ins and outs of building a change management lab.  A change management lab is an incredibly useful tool to have at your disposal, and although I work in a small office it would be worthwhile to invest the time and money into building one as long as it didn't require a ton of either time or money.  When I started researching the topic though I found that there is surprisingly little reference material to get started with.

As a result I responded the only way you can to a lack of documentation- I wrote up some documentation on the subject.  I hope this proves useful to someone undertaking the task of building a lab, and better yet, I hope it sparks someone who'd never considered building one to give it some thought.  They are a valuable tool in battling downtime and unforeseen service interruptions.
