Page 6 of 8 Firmware: The firmware on our review unit seems to be the newest available and although I'm not dissapointed, I'm not terribly impressed. It seems to be modeled after an iPod and does the job pretty well.
Just as the iPod, the main menu consists of all the main features - the SongBanks configuration, and a starting point for all of your music. From the main menu you can also access the FM tunner and voice recorder. The rest of the navigation is pretty straight forward. Software: This is where I was truly dissapointed. The Audio Phile software that MediaGear includes with the SongBank is really quite bad. Well, maybe not horrible - but frankly my 12 year old could probably have done a better job creating this interface. The software does get the job done, but the user interface feels like a bad example of an old Windows 3.1 program. On a good note, the SongBank does work well with MusicMatch Jukebox. I very quickly dropped Audio Phile into the recycle bin and opted for the more mature and user friendly interface that Jukebox offers. |
