EETimes is running an article building on the recent announcements by the major electronics manufacturers that they want to work together to avoid a DVD format war. I know I for one am seriously hoping that it can all be sorted out by the time the next generation of formats hits the mainstream.

"Members of the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD industry groups should compromise on one new hybrid format for next-generation DVDs. What's more, they should provide a simple way to share the high-quality content on those disks in secure, responsible ways."
