geekE news: DL-DVD edition
Tuesday, 07 September 2004
Some DL-DVD news about this morning. First up is that Gigabyte has announced the release of its DL burner, which will do 16x for DVD+R, 8x for DVD-R, 4x for DVD+RW/-RW, 2.4x for 8.5GB DVD+R DL (single-sided double-layer), 48x for CD-R and 24x for CD-RW as well as reading speeds of 16x for DVD and 48x for CD. It's everything plus the kitchen sink by the sounds of it. Next up is a small blurb over at DigiTimes discussing the fact that it's going to be a while before we start seeing DL media prices drop. They go into the who's & why's, but it basically comes down to cost of production & the number of manufacturers.
