This move by Gigabyte is very similar to the move that ASUSTEK made last year with their ASROCK branded boards. The idea is simple: make boards for all price points & try to gain more market share. both manufacturers have similar reputations stability- & reliability-wise, so they should experience some success in this endeavor.

"Gigatrend, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gigabyte, will handle marketing of the second-brand motherboards, with volume shipments starting in March, according to sources at Gigabyte, which sold an estimated 13.75 million motherboards in 2003."
