Texas Instruments to begin providing new 1GHz DSPs
Tuesday, 20 January 2004

TI's upgrades in the DSP department will help it stay on top of its top spot as the supplier for cellular & video chips.

"One of the new 1GHz DSPs, for instance, can process 55 Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) cellular network channels at once, whereas an earlier TI DSP running at 600MHz could only handle 35 channels."

The move will, consequently, also cut costs & energy consumption, because it will take fewer chips to handle the same workload.
