Comcast to release PDVR system by year's end
Thursday, 04 December 2003

This falls into the "its about damn time" department. I was wondering how long it would take other companies to follow up on the initial success of TiVo, & it seems that the mainstream is finally catching up. I'd actually heard that Dish Network is also already offering a set-top PDVR system as well, & they aren't even charging a monthly fee for it. I think that once the fee-based part of this whole deal disappears, people will flock to this kind of thing like geeks to QCon.

"The company will offer digital video recording (DVR) services over Motorola set-top boxes and is developing its own digital video recording software with partner TV Guide, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said Wednesday at the Western Cable Show in Anaheim, Calif. "

The story also goes on to discuss how cable executives are viewing DSL as a major factor in considering service rates. Interesting.
