Sony's PDD, or Professional Disc for Data has begun shipping, according to the Register. The PDD uses blue laser tech to deliver an astonishing 23GB of storage per 12cm disc on a 11MBps bus rate, & is aimed at replacing the current DLT tech for backups. Sony expects the 3rd generation of such products to reach the 50GB capacity on a 22MBps bus.
