MP3 codecs no longer free for GPL use
Friday, 30 August 2002

Hey, I have a great idea.  I'm going to invent a codec that allows people to take audio files and compress the hell out of them, while retaining most of their sound quality, and allow companies to use it in their software royalty-free if the software is free.  Then when the whole world is hooked on the codec, I'll start charging EVERYONE to use it!
