This line says it all: "They can transfer three gigs over 20km faster than the internet." Depends on what you call "internet", because the area the pigeons are used doesn't even have phone lines to run over... and satellite would be both expensive and is still susceptible to line of sight. All is not golden though - pigeons are susceptible to "packet" loss: "Nesting karearea (native falcons) have attacked and killed some of the pigeons mid-flight."
