The Reg has a rather disturbing piece of news. Apperantly a company by the name of Forgent Networks aquired an old 1986 patent and now wants royalties from everyone that uses JPEGs It specifies browsers, PDAs, digital cameras, phones and scanners in its 'clarification'. So the IP claim extends to any client device which receives a JPEG image. Let's hope this attempt goes the way of Rambus(t). Full story here. |
