Hrmmm... well, this could be good for ATi. Nvidia currently has a pretty good hold on the workstation market, I'd say, mostly because of their driver development for open-source OS'es. As of middle of last year, ATi's drivers for linux distro's weren't that great. Things have certainly changed in not only their drivers dept, however, as this release is proof of. Two guesses as to which card's architecture they based this bad boy on... & the first one don't count ;) The FireGL X2-256t will have an MSRP of only $899, which is considerably less than Nvidia's Quadro FX 3000G. Of course, many will say that comparing those two cards is like apples & oranges since it doesn't seem that the X2-256t supports frame-lock, but hey, $899 compared to $3K is a fair difference. |
