Harvard physicists stop light
Monday, 15 December 2003

Speaking of egg-heads... those crazy physicists at Harvard are at it again: playing with light, & actually getting it to stop. That's right folks; from 186,000 mph to zero. Quantum computing, here we come!

"Researchers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass., were able to bring a light pulse measuring a half mile long to a complete stop before allowing it to continue. Light entered a chamber a fraction of an inch wide, and was sufficiently slowed by metal atoms for the entire beam to enter the chamber before allowing it to exit."
