Wired ran a very interesting article a couple months back on a couple of wristwatch devices that will bring ever closer the gap between what was fiction, in Dick Tracy's 2-way radio, and what will be fact, in Fossil's Palm OS PDA watch and MS's 3G watch. The Japanese, known for their innovation on lilliputan scales, will most likely be quicker on the scene with viable devices, such as the Wristomo. This from cnn.com: Dubbed the "Wristomo," the watch opens up to become a phone, and users can talk while wearing it like Dick Tracy, the comic-book hero who debuted in the 1930's. The Wristomo, manufactured by Seiko Instruments, weighs 4 ounces including batteries. It also hooks up to DoCoMo's hit "i-mode" Web-surfing service. Wired.com also has an article on the 3G wristwatch from Micro$oft. I remember having a radio wristwatch from Sears that weighed about a pound that would tune in AM stations. I though it was the coolest thing, even though it didn't tell me the time. |
