When Toy Story(r) came out, the graphics craze was just hitting the digital world. People who had dabbled in 3D modelling and animation watched in amazement at the clean lines and smooth animation that rivalled traditional cel-shaded hand-drawn anime and cartoon offerings. They also sat and wondered...."will I someday be able to do that stuff on my home PC"? In the ensuing years, the technology has certainly made strides in that very direction. We are now starting to see independant 3D short films hit the media scene and some are even being introduced on the Sundance Online Film Festival. The piece LOR is being showcased at the moment as it's created a lot of excitement amongst the 3D animation community for its quality and execution. Wired magazine has a great article on it. I myself am looking forward to the day where 3D animation can be done with a drag-and-drop interface. I've got some great ideas for Lara Croft.... |
