New Forums, coming to a site near you!
Thursday, 04 July 2002

After a bit of work, I have successfully installed a new forum system here on Geek Extreme, it's the phpBB2 port for PHP-Nuke.  It will act and feel like the current forum system (which IS phpBB2), but integrated into PHP-Nuke (the Content Management System we use here).  If you look hard enough around the site you'll see some of it poking through already.  Some of the perks are the ability for the site and the forum system to share the same database file, thus also sharing the user tables, so you won't have to create an account for Geek Extreme AND an account for the forums, one account does it all.  I've just about finished the theme (AKA the look) of the forums to better match the site, we just have to fine tune the forum topics and do some minor asthetic adjustments on the site to make it all flow nicely.  The downside to this is we have to start the forums over again, from scratch, which is good and bad.  It's good because it gives us the opportunity to revamp the topics a bit, add some new ones, etc..  The bad is well, all old posts will no longer exist.  But, it's the price we pay for tighter integration.

Expect the new forums to roll out in the next couple of days!

Here's a highlight of what we've got in the works here at Geek Extreme:

We're still sorting through all the stuff Headgeek brought back from PC Expo, one of which being the nV**a thing we can't talk about.  We've also got plenty of reviews coming out soon, including the Icemat and Stomp Inc.'s ClutterBuster.  So stay tuned, this month is going to get VERY interesting!
