After much thought I finally decided to start up a Folding@Home team of our own for Geek Extreme, team #3113 The basis for the project is quite simple (in the grand scheme of things), the scientists at Stanford are trying to determine how proteins in the human body construct themselves, or "fold", and study the results of "misfolding", believed to cause diseases like Alzheimer's disease, cystic fibrosis, CJD (Mad Cow disease), an inherited form of emphysema, and even many cancers are believed to result from protein misfolding. This is truely a worthwhile cause and I urge you to download one of the clients and donate some spare CPU cylces. For more information check out the Folding@Home website. You can download the client (Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X) from here, and you can also check out our team's results. |
