Despite the rumors that Apple had ground to a halt with no new lines in the works, Jobs announced at Macworld in S.F. two new notebooks that he hopes will boost Apple sales. The new 17" model will have a 1Ghz G4 and a 60GB hard drive while the new 12" model will have a 867Mhz processor with a 40GB hard drive. The 17" model will have Bluetooth and 802.11b built-in with a lighted (wow) keyboard and the 12" Model will have Bluetooth. Frankly, I like the little light above the keboard on my IBM laptop, but the lit keyboard should be a nice cosmetic touch, if not a little more versatile. But 1Ghz is still far behind the speeds out now for those running Window$ and Linux and I wonder if that will still deter those who would consider switching platforms to OSX. I've found that I've really needed the onscreen real estate when using OSX, especially on the 15" screen that I have, and can't imagine trying to use it effectively on a 12" screen. What do you think? Do you believe that these products could pull Apple out of its technology doldrums? |
