GPGPU virus scanning 21X faster

The guys at the Inq attended an event hosted by AMD somewhere yesterday, & they got an eyeful of presentations on stuff like GPGPU performance & the Torrenza platform. One such demonstration was particularly interesting: showing a GPGPU slicing through a Kapersky virus scan like a hot knife through butter. "When running Kaspersky SafeStream, GPU powered search achieved 6.2 Gbps (775 MB/s) during scanning a hard drive array, quite close to maximum speed that RAID field could have provided, while DSDC Opteron processors were loaded between one and two percent."
