1Q competition drops hard drive prices; margins

Intense competition between the major manufacturers has driven prices down. According to the people at iSuppli, this will do two things: delay the penetration of SSD technology into the mobile marketplace, & put pressure on manufacturers to reduce their material costs. I just hope that cheaper materials won't equate to cheaply-made drives...

"Companies like Seagate and Western Digital will be challenged to improve their gross margins. One easy way these companies can do this is to pressure their suppliers to reduce the cost of the materials they purchase."
