The Inq guys have posted a couple of stories about the upcoming R600 part today regarding the launch date & the memory type. It seems that AMD/ATi have decided to go all-or-nothing with GDDR4 instead of their original dual-SKU plan that included GDDR3 as well. I suppose the yields from Samsung are just fine after all. Also, the cards will be launching in the beginning of February, & will be widely available at launch; just in time for Vista.
