Page 1 of 3 Medusa
Progamer 5.1 headset
Avid
gamers know the benefits of using surround sound speakers while
gaming. The ability to quickly determine the direction a sound came
from can easily mean the difference in chalking up another kill and
the consolation prize of sipping your drink while waiting impatiently
for a respawn. Unfortunately, surround sound requires lots of
speakers that often is not a realistic option for a PC setup, even
for the most hardcore gamers amongst us. Enter the wonders of
surround sound headphones, an easy way to get surround sound fraggin'
in spite of whatever obstacles may keep you from using a full blown
surround sound setup; be it a significant other, parents, space, or
simply your wallet. Today we've gotten our grubby little hands on the
very sleek Medusa 5.1 ProGamer Headset, manufactured by SpeedLink in
Germany, and will be putting it through its paces.
Looking
at the fairly standard packaging, the first thing that caught our
attention was that taped to the outside of our review unit was a
power outlet converter. Interestingly, the power adapter included with this
headphone is made for European outlets, and they thankfully thought ahead to include an
adapter for use in the U.S. Opening the packaging reveals a very
plush traveling case. The Medusa ProGamer version of this headphone
is designed with the LAN gamer in mind. This travel case and Velcro
cable straps will securely carry the headphones and all needed
accessories to connect to your portable (or borrowed) gaming rig on
the road. All items fit nicely in this well made soft case, and we
were pleasantly surprised to see the extra effort of a red ribbon
tied around the headset. Pointless yes, but we do like the emphasis
put on the product presentation by Medusa and Speedlink.
