Written by Benjamin A. Hunter

A little off-topic, but an interesting read -- How technology is keeping our troops in Afghanistan connected to friends and family. Nice to see they benifit from technology. We at GeekExtreme wish our troops safety and a quick return home. (And that they find Osama and beat the mother loving piss out of him.)

Registering a Domain With False Information could cost you big.
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter
Wednesday, 08 May 2002

It's about damned time. All those people spamming you through domains they've set up that have false information are about to be a memory. Soon, registering a domain name with false information may face jail terms for it. All I can say is, this is one bill I hope becomes law.

People who provide false data when registering a domain name on the Web could be thrown into jail for up to five years, if a recently introduced bill becomes law.

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - Does size matter to men? In more ways than one, according to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael Powell.

The son of Secretary of State Colin Powell, speaking at the annual cable industry convention, had cable executives roaring with laughter on Tuesday by describing a new kind of male envy sweeping through consumer electronics stores in America.

Editor's Note: It's about damned time.

By Andy Sullivan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two congressmen launched an effort on Tuesday to outlaw "child modeling" Internet sites that depict children as young as five years old wearing bikinis and other suggestive outfits, saying they encourage child sex abuse.

Rep. Mark Foley, a Florida Republican, and Rep. Nick Lampson, a Texas Democrat, introduced a bill that would ban Web sites that charge money to view pictures or videos of children under 17 years old.

VeriSign to Auction .bz Domains on E-Bay
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter

Editor's Note: VeriSign sucks ballz. I was given the poorest quality of customer service through them. I highly suggest that anyone considering doing business with VeriSign think about using a different registrar.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Security and Web address provider VeriSign Inc., which has seen layoffs and missed its sales target partly as a result of lower-than-expected Web address sales, on Wednesday announced it will auction domain names on eBay Inc.

The auctions of ".bz" domain names will be targeted at businesses, VeriSign said in a statement. Other domain names are likely to follow, a spokesman said.

more stupid bills by stupid people
Tuesday, 07 May 2002

More "video games are bad for your children", a bill introduced last week in Congress, if passed, would make it a federal crime to sell or rent violent video games to minors.  While reading the boring interesting crap about it, I suddenly came to one realization.

Sure, they can stop children from buying violent video games, but they can't stop them from PLAYING the games.  If a minor wants a game, it's as simple as back in the days when I wasn't old enough to buy cigarettes, HAVE SOMEONE ELSE BUY IT FOR YOU. What's next, a bill that makes it illegal for a minor to play a violent video game?  I want to see them try and enforce THAT.

I can just see it now, at the store buying a game, and I get carded for it.
