Fans meet the dark side of Web tickets
Thursday, 16 May 2002

Did you buy your tickets for "Attack of the Clones" online? Better double check the date & time to make sure it jives with the theater's, unlike this boor bastard.

With ticket in hand, Craig Rankin thought he was going to see the new "Star Wars" movie early Wednesday morning. Instead, the showing was just a phantom menace.

Microsoft releases more duct tape for IE
Thursday, 16 May 2002

MS has issued a 2MB update for Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5 and 6.0.  Three of the holes plugged were deemed "critical".  XP users should be prompted by Windows to download the update, the rest of us will have to do it the old fashioned way, the Windows Update Site.

You can read more about the holes here.

NASA Hunts for Shuttle Parts -- Online -- On E-Bay and other sites like it.
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter
Thursday, 16 May 2002

Apparenty the Space Shuttles, which were first launched in 1981, need parts -- and a lot of these parts are so outdated, they aren't made anymore. Take for example the Orbiters. They use a type of disk drive that was outdated by the 70's. THE SEVENTIES. (8"?)

Is it just me, or is this just a teeny bit scary? Wait. It gets better.

NASA is scouring places like E-Bay to find these much needed parts.

Makes me want to get a list and start collecting.

Copy-protected music CD's easy to crack
Tuesday, 14 May 2002
Well we all knew it was a matter of time before someone found a way around some of the new copy protection schemes for music CD's.  The Register has an interesting little bit about what you can do with some electrical tape and a magic marker.  Apparently attempting to play a CD using a particular protection scheme in a new iMac will cause mass chaos and require you to take your computer to an authorized repair shop to A) get the CD out and B) get the bloody thing to reboot properly.

We're back
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter
Tuesday, 14 May 2002
Well, we made it back from "The Magic of Technology" in Green Bay, Wis. I got some video, but to be honest the show wasn't hugely newsworthy. I may post some video later. I do have an excellent sound clip of a guy from Compaq saying "Compaq gives you more beer folks." and I'll definately post that soon.
