Who exactly is to blame for nVidia's packaging SNAFU?
Written by t-readyroc
Thursday, 03 July 2008
There's been plenty of stories floating around the web today about how nVidia's currently taking it up the pooper. The main reasons behind this are their decreased earnings forecast, and their admitting fault in a notebook GPU manufacturing mistake; leading to many expected recalls. EETimes digs a bit deeper into the story to ask, "who's exactly to blame here?" The chain of PR emails goes round and round: placing blame, shifting blame, accepting blame; you name it. My take is that both nVidia and TSMC are to blame on this one, which begs the question of why nVidia's taking it all upon themselves to correct it? I guess it all depends on how bad this news ends up hurting their bottom line - it could be a long way to go to do the "right" thing.

Sony's pulled the 2.40 update since many users were apparently experiencing hang-on-load issues. Kotaku reports that Sony is "looking into it."

"It now appears that Sony has since pulled the newest update, reverting back to firmware 2.36 as the most recent available version. We were just prompted to download version 2.36 after having skipped the most recent pair of PS3 software updates."

A dozen Firefox 2.x holes plugged; support until 12/08

If you're still holding on to Firefox 2.x like I am, you may have already seen the update daemon do its thing today. 2.0.0.15 is now the latest version, which patches twelve holes in the browser, several of which are rated "highly critical." Hit the link for the full listing, and you can update yourself manually here. Their download page for 2.x states that the browser will be maintained until December 2008, at which point I'm guessing the auto-update feature will push you up to 3.x.
