War driving at OCModshop
Written by t-readyroc
Friday, 18 November 2005

If you don't know what war driving is, your wireless router's most likely not secured, either. So get on over to OCModShop & edumacate yourself before you end up with all of your personal info on some forum somewhere.

"In the modern day of broadband and high-speed internet, people have migrated from modems to routers, many of which have wireless capability. 'War Driving' is the act of driving around in a car looking for 'open' wireless access points, usually with a booster antenna on the roof that is attached to a wireless LAN card in a laptop. But these days, this can also be done with a PDA, like an iPAQ."

Mambo vulnerability discovered
Written by t-readyroc
Friday, 18 November 2005

Secunia has published a "highly critical" security advisory for the Mambo CMS, applicable to all 4.x versions. It requires that register_globals is disabled, & can lead to remote system access & data manipulation. The vulnerability remains, as of yet, unpatched.

"The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the "register_globals" emulation layer in "globals.php" where certain arrays used by the system can be overwritten. This can be exploited to include arbitrary files from external and local resources via the "mosConfig_absolute_path" parameter."

ISAKMP flaw threatens just about everything

Yikes... an ISAKMP security flaw is no good. Just about every "secure" protocol on the internet uses this protocol, & you've gotta be damn sure that companies are in a tizzy right now trying to patch it.

"The ISAKMP, which provides associations for other security protocols, is used to establish secure links over the public Internet. It is an important part of IPsec, which is used to encrypt packets and create secure tunnels for traffic traveling over the public Internet and into a corporate network."

Microsoft will wipe Sony's copy protection software

You know you're peeing in the wrong pool when your software gets added to Microsoft's malicious software removal tool's search index. Not that there was ever any love lost between MS & Sony, but I'd say Sony's latest 'mistake' certainly isn't helping their relationship...

"To protect Windows users, Microsoft plans to update Windows AntiSpyware and the Malicious Software Removal Tool as well as the online scanner on Windows Live Safety Center to detect and remove the Sony BMG software, the software maker said in its blog."
