Another complaint against 180Solutions

180Solutions is at it again. There's been a new complaint lodged against the notorious adware company, alleging that companies propagating 180Solutions software are using security exploits to push their Zango software.

"180Solutions has taken steps to improve its reputation in recent months. In December, the company announced a new version of its S3 (Safe and Secure Search) technology and said it would stop supporting 180 Search Assistant, which Edelman and others claimed was frequently installed improperly by the company's advertising affiliates."

 
OS patches all around!

Yesterday was patching day for both Apple & MS, apparently. I noticed that my workstation had been rebooted when I got in this morning. MS' released seven patches for a variety of things, including critical flaws in IE & Windows Media Player. Apple released OSX 10.4.5, which included some minor fixes for Safari & several fixes for Intel-related issues.

Winamp security flaw fixed - 5.13

Secunia discovered a highly critical flaw in the latest Winamp player, 5.12, & said that all 5.x versions were also likely affected. Winamp has already released a patched player, 5.13, so if you use Winamp, get yourself up-to-date. Norton's rootkit-like feature

Yet another reason not to use Norton. I always thought their anti-virus suite was overly intrusive & cumbersome, but I didn't think it went to these lengths...

"Symantec is cleaning up a feature in Norton SystemWorks that uses a rootkit-like technique to hide a system folder from Windows. The technology works similar to Sony BMG's controversial rootkit DRM in the way it masks files and makes them invisible to the operating system."
