Holy hell-in-a-handbasket. I know for sure that both my wife & I have shopped at Marshalls in that time frame.

"The company does not know the extent of the breach, which was first discovered in December 2006. However, hackers may have made off with credit and debit information from transactions in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico in 2003 as well as transactions between May and December 2006, according to a company statement."

Despite earlier fears that the code wouldn't even be open for use by the major players in the anti-virus market, it looks like Vista will indeed ship alongside several Vista-compatible third-party offerings. Did anyone really think it would turn out otherwise?

"Introducing the list of third-party Vista security products, Microsoft noted its dependence on other developers to help secure the operating system, and said it would work with its security partners to provide technical support resources, access to application testing and compatibility labs, and developer training and certification programs for the product."

In case you missed it yesterday with all the iPhone hoopla, Microsoft had its monthly patch release, which amounted to a total of four patches covering both Windows & Office products. The Reg has the rundown.

"Since exploits are available for the Outlook and VML flaws applying patches that address these security flaws ought to be the main priority for sys admins, PatchLink advises."

This is just rich, I tell ya. Sure, upgrading your Adobe reader to v8 is really not an issue, but if you want to "immediately address the issue" for your Acrobat Pro, they want you to plunk down another couple hundred dollars to upgrade that to v8 as well. Lovely. Meanwhile, C|Net's reporting that this flaw is more dangerous than previously thought...

"Upgrading to Adobe Reader 8 and Acrobat 8 'addresses the issue immediately' she said. 'For Acrobat and Reader customers who wish to stay with their current version, they can use their browser preferences to disable the Reader plug-in from opening within the browser.'"
